It seems to me that giving confidential information to the likes of this guy would be a greater sin then the defamation that he seems to allege.
What is the UEA in Rotterdam, and what relevance do they have to anything?

From Googling around it appears that Giorgio Silfer is a pseudonym for Valerio Ari. What standing would a pseudonym have in an action for defamation?

I'm sure that the press deals with this sort of guy all the time. They depend a lot on people backing down to idle threats of a lawsuit. If you remove the offending material, they will see the problem as solved and not go ahead with any legal action. In other words, if you remove the critique, the "legal problem" will never be solved. A lot of allegations with absolutely no foundation in fact or law are won this way.
Until he has filed a formal complaint with some official body, there is no "legal problem". Once he has made his complaint it is up to him to prove his case including whether he has standing and whether the official body that he has chosen has jurisdiction over the alleged offenders. The burden of proof is entirely on him.
