Paul,

Thanks for that. I am not too close to BP, however, this is broadly accords
with my understanding and it is nice to have that confirmed. I would like to
copy your post to uk.rec.walking. I'm sure that the rambling fraternity would
like to know a little bit more about what they're getting.

Regards.

actually, it wasn't me saying, i just did the translation. (-:

however, if memory serves, Ms. Large's performance, or lack thereof,
whilst at BP, demonstrated a profound proclivity for the taurus by-
product as opposed to actually accomplishing anything useful to the
cause. i think the general opinion is that whatever new position
she may have garnered was done by bullshit rather than by pointing to
actually results at BP.

for a number of years i spent a lot of time at BP, and a lot more
time and effort promoting the cause. but i think that by bthe time
she was on the scene i had given up, so i don't have any empirical
knowledge of her effectiveness. however, to use another latin
expression, "Res ipsa loquitur" (the thing speaks for itself).
she was never very popular and her decision to essentially ban Tony
S. from the park exacerbated an already bad situation.

to be fair, it's got to be one of the most difficult and thankless
things to do; to try to convince people to give real money to
preserve something like BP. to those of us who understand and care,
it's a no-brainer, but to those who don't, it's a very hard sell
indeed. i knew one of her predecessors rather well, Roger B., the
former Lord Mayor of MK, and i know how much he cared and how hard he
tried, and in spite of his efforts, how little of what was needed he
was able to provide.
