I wondered whether anyone on this list could tell me what, in WW2, was printed out on a German teleprinter for the characters fig-shift F, fig-shift G and fig-shift H?

According to my materials ("General Report on Tunny"), the answers are as follows:

F percent sign
G commercial "at" sign
H pound sign

However, it also says these meanings were laid down by international convention and that "Figure shift meanings are liable to variation when they have a purely national significance", specifically giving the pound sign as an example. I am left with the impression that the answers above are what would have come out on a British teleprinter of the period, and don't tell us much about what a German one would have printed.
