That's not true. It might be a physical problem with the disk; however,
booting to single-user and running badblocks will reveal that:

It is entirely "normal" for an automated fsck to fail on ext2 drives after
abnormal shutdowns.
My own recommendation would be to check all the partitions after a boot
failure.
