Recently I bought a used LOWE PR-150 Pre-Selector from a friend, and as I have suspected for a long time this pre-selector really improved the reception on frequencies below 30 MHz on all my wideband receivers (WINRADIO WR-1550e, ICOM IC-PCR1000, YAESU VR-5000).
The input circuitry of those receivers gets easily overloaded by strong out of band stations causing the interference and desensing of the band you actually want to listen to. With the LOWE PR-150 I'm now running a 100 m random wire to all of the above mentioned wideband receivers and receive stations almost as good with those receivers as my dedicated HF receivers (KENWOOD TS-2000X, KENWOOD R-5000, ICOM IC-706MKIIG, ICOM IC-R75, ICOM IC-M700TY) (Yes, I do know that the TS-2000X, IC-706MKIIG, IC-M700TY actually is transceivers!)
The difference is amasing, with my wideband receivers (WINRADIO WR-1550e, ICOM IC-PCR1000, YAESU VR-5000) connected directly to the antenna the S-meter rises and the weak signal disappears, by connecting the LOWE PR-150 the S-meter level decreases and the weak stations emerges from the background noise.
