PCR-1000 Front end blown out: msg#00043

Subject: PCR-1000 Front end blown out

I looks like a close lighting strike wiped out the front end of my
PCR-1000. It still receives but it's VERY week. I have a 100,000
watt FM radio station transmitter less than 5 air miles from me that
usally pegs the meter out even with the attenuator on and now it's
just S-7 at best. Even my 2 meter radio at 50 watts can only put a S-
8 on it and the antennas are only 20 feet apart on the same tower.

I'm hoping I can send it back to Icom and have it fix for a
reasonable fee. It works fine other than the recieve being about 5%
of what it used to be. A friend tells me it might be a clamping
diode and even though it's surface mount, he can fix it if this is
the problem. Has anyone alse had this happen? If so what was the
price to fix it from Icom. I've had this receiver so long....I feel
like I just lost a family member.

I think I will go to bed now and cry myself to sleep :-(
