Karina,
You may want to give fish oil rather than Flax seed oil. The ratio
of Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acids in Flax is 4:1. In fish oil it is
7:1. Studies have shown Omega-3 to benefit neurological function,
autoimmune function, inhibits tumor growth in lymphoma, protects
healthy cells from the effects of chemo and makes chemo more
effective against cancer cells. I think I read in a Dr. Ogilvie study
that it also helps with cachexia. You may want to read the following
article about Ogilvie's research.

Nature's Made brand fish oil is also on sale very cheap at Target
right now. They have packages of two 100 count 1250mg bottles for
$6.99. They aren't in the vitamin area. I had to ask where they
were located. In addition, the plastic wrapper has a coupon for $2
off your next purchase. I asked the cashier if I could use the
coupon right then, and he handed me a knife to cut the plastic. If
they say no, buy one, cut the plastic and buy the next. They will
get the hint very quickly. So they ended up being $4.99 for 200 1250
mg fish oil. Additionally, every 4 B1G1 packs you buy will earn you
a coupon for $7 off your next Nature Made purchase. Codes are on the
bottles. You enter the codes online.
Natures Made was picked a "Best Choice" in the following study.

You may want to ask your vet about doxycycline also. It is cheap, it
is also an antibiotic, and it also has antiangiogenic and anti-
inflammatory properties. If Hobbes is suffering some sort of
autoimmune response, doxycycline might help.
Hope this helps.
Hang in there.
