Subject: Re: periactin (cyproheptadine) question
Hi Trudy, I'm glad to hear your guy is eating well again, hope he
keeps it up! Thought I would let you know that today the vet said
if you want to stop the Cypro for a few days, you don't have to
taper it off. I told her it didn't seem to be helping anymore and
she checked to see if she could up the dosage, but at one tab a day,
Emma is already at the max. She said she hadn't noticed before, but
she saw today that it can cause depression and it clicked because I
told her Emma doesn't seem ill or in pain, just lethargic and
unhappy. She doesn't play anymore, has practically no interest in
food, but wants to be held and cuddled more than ever before. I am
going to stop the Cypro tomorrow and wait a few days to see if she
perks up. This has been such a struggle for me, wondering if I'm
doing the right thing. The chemo has the cancer under control, but
her quality of life is nothing like it used to be. If dropping the
Cypro helps, that would be wonderful! Melody
