Update on katie's lymphoma.....really hope I'm making the right decisions: msg#00544

Subject: Update on katie's lymphoma.....really hope I'm making the right decisions
Katie is on 4mg of Leukeran once every two weeks and 2.5mg of pred
every other day. She's been on this for 8 months with minimal problems.
Her last vet visit(4 weeks ago) her wbc was at 5.5 which the vet said
was nothing to worry about but if it gets any lower than that she would
start to worry. She also felt Katie's intestines and said there's
lymph node involvement now which there wasn't before. I said that her
wbc might have been lower because she just got the leukeran two days
before. The vet mentioned seeing Katie again one week after her next
dose, so 3 weeks later.
I made the decision to give her two more doses and bring her in next
week. She seems to be doing really good. She's eating, purring,
cuddling, and playing. Her favorite thing is the plastic rings off
milk cartons. It's so cute, she carries it around and throws it. When
she carrying it around she meows very loud. The first time she did it
I thought she was in pain or going to vomit. She carries it with her
to wherever she going to curl up to go to sleep, plops it down, and
curls up on top of it. As if she's afraid of losing while she's
sleeping, it's so cute.
the vet visits are extremely stressful on her because of her
personality. I made the decision because of that. I'm just hoping it
was the right one. Of course I'm going to feel terrible if we go in
and her wbc is down to a dangerous level.
As far as the progression of the lymphoma I'm really hoping all that
happened before we managed to get her on leukeran. Might be wishful
thinking but I'm hoping it hasn't spread even more.
I'm considering having the traveling vet come out and take blood when
all my regular vet wants is a cbc. I really like my vet and I don't
wan to hurt her feelings but it would be alot easier on Katie. i'm not
sure what to do, my regular vet knows what to look for as far as signs
and progression of the disease-the traveling vet wouldn't.

I guess I had more to talk about than I thought, sorry about the long
post and thanks for listening.

Hugs,
Lori
