Re: cell phones out in the booners: msg#00930recreation.cars.toyota.campers
Hi Pete and Bill. I live out on the coast and come over your way by 126. I have been using cell phones in the MH for many years, first with the 3 watt bag phone now the little hand held. A good external antenna is the best and cheapest solution. I have two of them. One is an Antenna Specialist and the other is a Wilson. They both make high gain 7db ones. I will say that Wilson is great for service and warranty even after the warrantee period is up. Here's what I do. My roofs have been aluminum so I wanted them on the roof as a ground plane. Unfortunately that would require a hole in the roof. What I did was get a magnetic one and glued it to the roof with contact cement. Wilson also makes a truckers model which is expensive but is very very good. It has a built on ground plane. I have been with AT&T now Verizon with the small hand helds and they really work much much better with the roof antennas.
