Well, I am no expert, but here are my experiences with my 4cyl manual transmission. I have an 84 Dolphin 23 foot. I think it is slow going from 0-60 mph if you are heading up a hill. Wind is a big factor in how hard the engine has to work. In alot of ways it is very zippy for what I was expecting. I live out west and frequently cross the Salt River canyon in central AZ ( a mini grand canyon) that is 30 miles from side to side. It is so steep there are truck runaway zones on both sides. Yes, it is nerve-wracking and I have it in second gear going between 35-40mph in some spots. I have also climbed 11,000 elevation mountains in Utah and Colorado with little trouble. But for the most part I am pleased with my rig, in most cases the strength of the engine surprises me. I have put 35K on her with no engine problems at all, jus
t regular maintenance.

Hi,
This is my first post to this group. I am thinking
of
buying a Toyota RV and I have a very BASIC question.
I a 4 Cyl Toyota really enough to push around such a
huge RV? Do the 4 cyl engines burn out early? Is a 6
cyl really a better way to go? I have had Toyotas all
my life and I know a 4 cyl Camry is a bit under
powered at times. I can't imagine that engine in an
RV...I know..it's not the same engine but still a 4
cyl. I had a VW camper bus in my youth. Great
concept! Terrible engine/drive train.....I don't want
the same experience. Please advise or point me toward
previous articles written about this subject.
Thanks
