i was once a passenger in a car sitting at a light
when....the clutch cable/linkage let go. we jumped foreward about 5 feet!
luckily, we were the first car in line, with cross traffic about 10 feet
away.
another reason to slip it into neutral with a
standard!

the life of automatic trannys
It might stem from a safety idea for manual shift cars
whereby the idea is that if you have your car in gear at a stop light and
someone rearends you, it could dislodge your foot that is on the clutch
and cause your car to leap into the intersection. Somewhat far
fetched, but it could happen.
