Clink and Clank say to leave it in Drive. Shifting it into and out of Drive wears out the clutches. I think they are right because I feel a definite jerk when I put it in Drive. I don't know where this idea got started, certainly the manufacturers don't recommend it. It might stem from a safety idea for manual shift cars whereby the idea is that if you have your car in gear at a stop light and someone rearends you, it could dislodge your foot that is on the clutch and cause your car to leap into the intersection. Somewhat far fetched, but it could happen.
