Mark, What failed was a 5-lug axle on a 1980 ToyRV. 6 lug axles were put into ToyRV service somewhere around 1986 or 1987. As to whether you can -safely tow- anything is undetermined. Several members of this group do tow, most don't, and from what I understand none of our ToyRVs are supposed to according to RV makers and Toyota. You may get away with it for awhile. You also may crash-n-burn. As a guy who uses freeways & city streets just like you, I have the right to expect that all drivers follow road and highway safety regulations and WON'T tow a trailer with a vehicle specifically contra-indicated. Safety has to come first on public roads for everyone's sake. Sorry to sound like a lecturing father but my kids ride on public roads... Yahoo!
