But generally there in a very acceptable state. - Secondly, there is little damage to be done from gentaly pushing open a gate against a small head of water. The boat pushes smoothly and contiuasly against the middle of the gate, and the force exerted on the gate is nateraly limited to that of the boats thrust or 'static bollard force'. - And thirdly, as i have already said its not something we ever do as normal practice. On the odd occation that we do do it, im quite sure that is does far less damage than crashing into the gate a speed, which is something that seams to happen increasingly often.
