Thanks Scott. I'm sure Ron will make the playfield look brand new.
Just drop me a line when you get ready to fix up your Wh2O and I'd be
happy to help you out.

I had an NOS Bony Beast ramp I just installed an a restoration. It
also had to be cut down. I couldn't believe it was a factory part but
it was. It still had the big factory part tag attached to it and was
complete and fully assembled.
Anyway I came up with a way to cut it. I heated up the tip of a box
knife with a plumbers torch and cut right through the plastic with it.
It went through like butter. Dremels are fine but if you slip you'll
scratch up your nice ramp. Practice on a junk ramp first. It is an
easy way to do a tricky job.

I had talked to pinballball inc about this some time ago. They stated
that they didn't want to compromise the strength of their ramps by
removing that material. I told them, there is nothing in that section
of the ramp that would break if they did that.
I know it is a pita to have the frog stick up all the time as mine did
it too.

I would try a hot razor before going with a dremel, unless you can
clamp a piece of metal in there to use as a guide.

After watching the Jersey Jack pinball Video on youtube that was
approx 45mins, Jack mentioned about
setting up the factory not the same as Stern with the ladies doing
there wiring work on a board, as
has been done in the past 50 years.

Now this had me thinking, boy i hope it's not a complete circuit
board under the playfield!
this would be a real pain in the (_*_) to repair etc.

So hopefully the wire will still be there. :)

Rumour has it that the large wiring harnesses are being replaced with
a CAN-Bus system. (Controller Area Network).

I believe that JJ was referring to the "passing down" assembly line
structure when a game is manufactured.

I would think that it would cost twice as much to manufacture a
pinball machine as a complete circuit.

Twice as expensive to repair as well....

I'd try Juan's idea first by going into coil test pulling the plunger
back by hand to get the tip out of the way. Now press the start button
to fire the autolaunch coil. If after several tests it seems fine you
may need the outer spring. Also make sure the shooter tip isn't
touching either side of the forks which could cause any drag. Also
could take off the apron and make sure the coil bracket hasn't broken
or loosened from the playfield. With apron off and playfield lowered
back into position you should be able to use coil test and see what
the issue is.

All of these coils are +38VDC, and get power through a NC switch on
the tilt relay and a NO switch on the game over relay. Check both of
these relay switch stacks for misadjusted / fouled switches.

So, what can I do to prevent this type of damage? A humidifier? I
really don't know that the humidity in the room is that different from
the rest of the basement, it's an open entrance way to the room from
the main game room. After reading lots of posts about guys keeping
their games in below-freezing storage for years with no ill effect, I
have to wonder if they looked closely at their playfields. I mean,
you really have to squint and look at the right angle to see the
'damage', but this game was never even subjected to freezing
temperatures or quick temp fluctuations.

I'm no tech but this could be an issue with a loose wiring connection. The daisy chained ground wire connection could have come loose somewhere and all your pop bumpers and slingshots that are in line with that are without ground and will not operate. I fired her up this morning and I didn't get through the first game. As soon as I locked the first ball it wouldn't kick out another ball. I look through the ramp and the middle switch is rubbing against the PF and it's still in the down position.. I give it a little bend to center the switch and so far (crosses fingers) it hasn't messed up yet since, but I've only played about 4 games since. Thanks for the tip! Give me wire all day any day as opposed to dealing with a bunch of microcontrollers running on multiple ICs. Being in networking for 20+ years, I can go ahead and tell you that CAN-bus problems always have to be replaced…..not repaired! Collectors are going to have a cash cow when (not if) they have to replace one of the microprocessors that handle those controllers. This is why you always end up paying out the ass when the CAN-bus in your car fails. I will start by stating I've never had to do this before either. Plus, I had to look it up in the manual to see if this was a WMS part or Bally. It is in fact a WMS part. Anyhow, go to - http://www.planetarypinball.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=PP&Screen=BOOK. Then, click on the blue book. Search for "C-11819". It won't give you the correct pages, but you can advance one page to 5-32 (pg 428 of the online catalog) from the first search hit. It looks like there are two nuts used to secure the post height. Loosen the upper nut first, then the lower. Adjust the height, and tighten each nut in reverse order. It's great that PP has this info readily available, but what a PITA it is to navigate. I had to look it up in the hard copy catalog, after several unsuccessful search in the online catalog. In hindsight, It would probably be easier just to d/l the Atlantis or Big Guns manual from IPDB. I have a magic orange cat who makes a bee line straight for any open machine (arcade or pinball). Even with this rule in place, I have found him trapped in games "I only opened for a minute". My sympathies; I would not have expected a broken ramp. I usually am paranoid about the cats going after the rubber (a member posted about his $2000 pinball rubber once, due to the vet bills post feline ingestion). Good luck finding a replacement. If not I am sure you can jury rig the current one into functionality, I just would not expect it to be purty. ============================================================================== TOPIC: FS: Taxi Marylin Prototype http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.pinball/t/cfac6b9889fa0595?hl=en ============================================================================== == 1 of 1 == Date: Sun, May 8 2011 7:35 am From: GameRoomCollectibles http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150602442853&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT Can't really confirm nor disprove "Prototype" status, however it has 4 factory sticker "PROTO5" & "PROTO6" chips intact on 2 separate boards. I "HAD" DMD's.... My 40 plus machines are mostly 77-84 with some System 11's. People love too play my collection. Ball times are short and getting good at any one of them takes so much flipper skill.... Take a WPC game and hit the flipper fast. Not really fast but just hit it..... It stays up. Transistor controlled flippers SuCk !!!....Past 1989 it all ended for real flippers. That was my first thought, but I hadn't seen planking like this. Everything I had read said it was safe to keep games in these types of temps, with the backglass being the chief concern. Could the playfield really be more fragile than a backglass? :( ============================================================================== TOPIC: Game shipping options needed from St. Louis to SF Bay Area... http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.pinball/t/0d8bdce2a865cada?hl=en ============================================================================== == 1 of 1 == Date: Sat, May 7 2011 2:51 pm From: alive-cds Whatcha gonna get?? ============================================================================== TOPIC: WTB Shadow plastics especially the one near the Sanctum, used and even worn is okay. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.pinball/t/3840f6320c5f24f7?hl=en ============================================================================== == 1 of 1 == Date: Sat, May 7 2011 2:51 pm From: Rob On May 7, 3:31 pm, wesley <wkco...@xxxxxxxx> wrote: > On May 2, 11:46 am, wesley <wkco...@xxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > Although would love to buy just a few newplastics, doesn't seem > > anyone sellls them this way.  Most are okay on my machine but the > > sizeable where the balls lock after going into the Sanctum is > > completely gone to the point I'd take almost one in any condtion as > > long as it won't crumble when I install it. > > Lots of $ to buy the whole plastics set and might eventually but > prefer the above plastic and possibly a few others even from a parted > out machine.  Problem I have is Sanctum plastic is gone and sometimes > pinball ends up in the area.  Last resort is to cover the area but > prefer to find the correct plastic even one in fair to poor but mostly > intact. There is a switch inside the middle of the magnet that gets activated when the ball gets sucked up into it. It's made out of very thin copper sheet like spring steel. Test the switch with a ball and see if it works. If not, the switch may be stuck closed and needs to be adjusted. I had to adjust mine a few times before it worked 100% of the time. It can be touchty. Anti-slam switch (on the insdie of the coin door) closed and clean ? If the above 2 conditions are satisfied and the machine still won't start a game, you'll want to consult the schematic and find the circuit branch that contains the start button switch (Gottlieb may have called it "replay button sw." in 1972). There will be a number of other normally-closed (NC) switches in series with the replay button, between the power and ground sides of the schematic. All these switches will need to be closed and conducting or the replay button alone will not complete the circuit. One of the NC switches will probably be an anti-cheat switch, and two different NC switches will likely be located at two different positions of the score motor. There will probably be a couple other NC switches in the circuit also. Consult the schematic if you have one. If not, maybe someone else with the game can check it. We have > seen no pics of this guys dead ass anywhere.- Hide quoted text - > > - Show quoted text - The crazies are coming out early today. Yes, it does seem odd that his body is gone already. The explanation that they followed Islamic law to have him buried within 24 hours makes sense on one level but doesn't fit with our usual expectations. But to claim that this whole thing is set up for Obama's sake it just stupid. First thing to realize is that he is dead and his body is gone, there is no way he is not dead and there is no way he just died some time ago and got buried in the mountains by his followers. They would not make up this story to have him come out with a new video tomorrow or have his long dead corpse show up somewhere tomorrow. The only thing that makes logical sense is that he died and we have/had his body. There is no other way this story is going to be put out. The only thing in question is the circumstances of his death. In the upcoming months we will have video of the raid and we will have interviews with the SEALs. To think that all the people who are going to come out of the woodwork involved in this are all Obama robots carrying on with a massive cover up is just stupid. Will all the Republican Senators and Congressmen sit back and let a story they don't believe carry on? Will George Bush? WIll Dick Cheney? Nobody is stupid enough to put out a fake story that would so easily be proven fake. I guess the left wing has the wacky 911 conspiracy theorists, so why shouldn't the right wing have the wacky Bin Laden death conspiracy theorists. == 4 of 5 == Date: Mon, May 2 2011 10:02 am From: Pinballed Nobody is stupid enough to put out a fake story that would so > easily be proven fake. > Really? I didnt make any acusations. I simply asked if it had crossed anyones mind. I didnt even bring the subject up, it came from Pheobe who has NEVER made a political post or shown a bent toward any political party or the other. RGC said he has seen a pic of the dead body, thats enough for me. The key is you have to grind off the reset plunger to the same length as the difference between the old target and the new target. The problem is with the shorter target the reset plunger only going to the same height does not get all the targets back on the shelf. Take the plunger off and remove about 1/8 of an inch. Either with a grind wheel and or file. That should work. My recommendation after 15+ years restoring classic sterns is try to use the original targets. New targets will never be as snappy as the old targets and are made of a harder plastic. Which has issues. The spinners on Quicksilver are also critical. Sand the edges, debur the bracket, tweek the switch and use graphite on them. My QS has some of the best spinners. I can get over 200 spins per hit and both will be going at the same time while the ball is moving around the playfield. Great stuff, great game. Here is a picture of mine after restoration a few years back. http://usergallery.myhomegameroom.com/gallery/album142/2005_0801Image0071 http://usergallery.myhomegameroom.com/gallery/album142/2005_0801Image0070 Good luck. This one is a 4 rpm while the original is a 10 rpm. It is Multi Products spec #3312A. You would need to pull the outer crank arm assembly and install it on this one to use it in your Black Rose. Definitely a nice alternative to $225, and up, for a new motor. Shipping is extra. ============================================================================== You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "rec.games.pinball" group.
