I think this is caused by http://initd.org/tracker/pysqlite/ticket/215 and #217

Basically there's currently a crash if you try to execute an empty statement, 
like cur.execute(""). This is not something you'll encounter in your own 
applications normally. When was the last time you tried to execute an empty 
statement? ;-)

Looks like it's time for another pysqlite 2.3.x release.
