RE: Automation vs. DSLs (was: Development: A Structure d Problem Area?): msg#00064programming.language-of-the-year
I have had users (real bona fide users) who wanted to write their own queries. No kidding. The danger comes, of course, when they start to write their own updates. Getting users to write their own SQL is really simply a matter of frustrating them with non-responsiveness. If you starve a man, eventually he'll learn to fish on his own ;-) -----Original Message----- From: Ron Jeffries [mailto:jeffries-GO6AC1RsmrqsTnJN9+BGXg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, June 22, 2004 6:22 PM To: pragprog-hHKSG33TihhbjbujkaE4pw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [pragprog] Automation vs. DSLs (was: Development: A Structure d Problem Area?) On what planet is it true that SQL has been successful with real end users? I don't think I've /ever/ encountered real end users who weren't getting their SQL done by DB specialists.
