Throwing out the practices for a night.: msg#00020programming.extreme-programming.xp-explained2
I haven't been sleeping well. This happens when I'm frustrated with things, especially when I'm not sure what I'm frustrated with, and with a pregant wife and a national election, I wasn't too surprised over an hour or two of insomnia. But there was something at work bothering me too. So I turned on VNC before I went home and about 9pm decided to start throwing practices out the window. Some unit tests that were less perfect than they wanted to be needed some revisiting and refactoring, mostly set-up and tear down, and removal of duplication. So out the window goes pair programming and out the window goes Energized Work (or maybe not, after all the goal was to re-energize myself). So now, on the screen is a list of improved unit test for my pair to review the old fashioned quality inspection way and I'm up bright, early, and excited about going to work again. I think that's what I felt was missing in Kent's except on Energized Work. It really did a great job of reinforcing the troubles with working too much, but it didn't seem to touch on the troubles with working too little and just feeling unproductive sometimes. Both impact my output/hour immensely and if I get too locked up in Energized Work and Pair Programming I just don't get that feeling of productivity that energizes me. ------------------------ Yahoo!
