On C3, we brought in Jim Haungs to do some optimization work. We paired
with him as much as possible, but he did a lot of work optimizing this and
that on his own.

After he left, we removed essentially everything he did, and used the
measurement and optimization techniques we had learned from him, to do it
all over.

The result was that the team knew how to do the job we brought him in to
do.
