Re: Incompatibility with UNIX printing system style - interface file: msg#00357printing.cups.general
Hi, Thank you for your replies. Still, I can't figure out how to do what I want. The main reason I post the message was that I want the entire job (even if more files are specified from the lp command) to be transferred to the printer within a single connection to the printer. I have my own backend that is called from the interface script, but since the interface script called for each file specified in the lp command, transfer to the printer within a single connection is impossible (my backend is opening a connection to the printer each time it is executed). So I tried to use the lpd backend by using "-v lpd://myprinter/PASS" in the lpadmin command when creating the queue. But still, for each file sent, a connection is opened (probably the lpd backend is called for each file specified). So, is there a way, in the CUPS printing system, to have a single printer connection opened for a lp command (even if more files are specified) ? Thank you again. It is not impossible, but it requires a lot more logic/code in the interface script - that's what we did back in the ESP Print days on IRIX, Solaris, and HP-UX, and it was very difficult to manage... -- ______________________________________________________________________ Michael Sweet, Easy Software Products mike-B9D8k9nSxTHQT0dZR+AlfA@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Printing Software for UNIX http://www.easysw.com _______________________________________________ cups mailing list cups-B9D8k9nSxTHQT0dZR+AlfA@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://lists.easysw.com/mailman/listinfo/cups |
