Normally it should work. Otherwise it is a bug -- or a wrong setup for
the Windows clients' printing.

Try

printing = cups
printcap = cups

in smb.conf.

Also do a

cupsaddsmb -v [printername]

on the CUPS host. (If that command doesn't succeed, consult the new
Samba HOWTO Collection, chapter 19:

about how to set it up.)

Then, from the Windows clients, connect as usual with the "Point'n'Print"
method to the CUPS queue, which downloads and installs the driver from the
CUPS/Samba server... (this is in great detail in above mentioned document)
