Subject: Good and Evil - msg#00025List: politics.progressive.newsIf the possession of weapons was an offense great enough to elicit an invasion of Iraq, then without a doubt, we would always be at war and most of those wars would be fought against the U.S. for having most of the "weapons of mass destruction" in the world. Today weapons of horror can extinguish life with pinpoint accuracy. Any weapon can be considered a weapon of "mass destruction" because it kills horribly, massively, and death is always indiscriminate. When a marine guard fires on a car at a check point he kills the driver and others in the car, even his wife and children. When a bomb which is supposed to seek out insurgents is dropped on a wedding party it takes out the bride, the groom and family. These are all weapons of mass destruction. Depleted uranium is the ammunition U.S. troops use in their bombs, their bullets and their missiles and it keeps on killing indiscriminately for years after it is used. The world has undergone a tremendous transformation since the fall of Communism and the Soviet Union. America now stands unopposed as the world's super power. It can do with impunity what it once considered a risk because of the Soviets. The fundamental change in the world is a shift to the right. I gave up waiting for the so-called promised "peace dividend" which never happened after the Cold War. Instead what we got was the New World Odor of Bush, Clinton and Bush.
