*Dean Supporters Consider Kucinich NOT Kerry Who Wants More USA Troops In Iraq By **Whitney Neufeld-Kaiser, * whitneynk@xxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:whitneynk@xxxxxxxxxxxx> An Open Letter to Governor Howard Dean and his supporters Dear Governor Dean, Years ago, you took the Hippocratic Oath to "First, do no harm." Consider this once again, and don't endorse Senator John Kerry. Endorsing Kerry would be inconsistent with your campaign and with the policies and proposals that attracted so many of your supporters. For many people, you have been the candidate who opposed the Iraq war, who opposed the status quo, who supported a change in our healthcare system, and who would address the soaring federal deficit. You said you will be "launching a new initiative to continue the campaign you[r supporters] helped begin." There is a candidate still in the presidential race who can continue carrying these progressive goals forward to the Democratic convention, a candidate who has been right there with you, voting against and opposing the war in Iraq from the very beginning, voting against and then calling for the repeal of the PATRIOT act, calling for and introducing legislation for universal health insurance. That candidate is Representative Dennis Kucinich (www.kucinich.us <http://www.kucinich.us/>). If you encourage your supporters to back Kucinich, whom the mainstream media have ignored out of self interest, the change that you started in the Democratic Party and in this country would move powerfully forward. The progressive agenda would continue to be heard, continue to take shape, and emerge as a potent force. At the very least, encourage your supporters and delegates to take an "undecided" position or perhaps support Senator Edwards. The worst thing for the Democratic Party would be for Kerry to go to the national convention with the nomination in hand. Consider: · The longer the party does not have a clear nominee, the less time the Bush campaign will have to mount a smear campaign against that nominee. There are already multiple postings on the Republican National Committee's website (www.rnc.org <http://www.rnc.org/>) against Kerry, and it's only February. · The longer the campaign lasts, the more real issues will be debated, and the more the Democratic Party will be forced to return to representing the average American. · The longer the campaign lasts, the more that Kerry will need to win the votes of /all/ Democrats, and the more he will be forced to represent mainstream voters. · At a time when many mainstream Democrats want "anyone but Bush," Kerry is anything but a shoo-in. Bush pressed for war in Iraq; Kerry voted for it. Bush gave us the PATRIOT Act; Kerry voted for it. Bush declined matching funds; so did Kerry. Bush takes money from special interests; Kerry has taken more money from lobbyists than any other senator in 15 years. The Democratic Party and this country do need change, and you have an enormous influence on how much change will actually happen. Support the candidate who will help our country make that change, Dennis Kucinich. * * *From Emily Horswill_ emhorswill@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx*** To Editors JOHN KERRY'S VOTING RECORD/285 words Kerry won his first term in office running for an empty Democratic seat. For his second term, he outspent his Democrat opponent by millions and won by 2 per cent. That's his total experience. Kucinich spent $2,000 his first term running against a Republican in a staunchly all Republican Ohio District. Now in his 12th term, Kucinich's supporters voted,"Do it again, Dennis," by 75 per cent! WHICH IS ELECTABLE? Bush would send 30,000 more troops to Iraq. John Kerry argues for 40,000! Their Iraq adventure is costing a half million dollars a day. And how many more body bags? How many more of our children return without legs? How many Iraqi children? Dennis Kucinich would lead us in a new direction. He says we we must pay reparations to the Iraqi children we have rendered parentless. To that end, Americans must go to work. Here's his plan. 1) Give the UN control of the Iraqi oil and reconstruction. 2) Bring our soldiers home to a Job Corps: roads and schools and parks are crumbling. With a half million dollars day of NO WAR we can put every American to work mending them with plenty left over. For? Eight days of no war will buy non-profit, single payer medical care from cradle to grave for everyone for a year: No more body bags, no more wheel chairs. 3) Our present poor excuse for a medical plan costs $l.7 trillion per year. His plan would reduce your medical bill to zero, the nation's (your taxes) by 50 per cent. Or would you prefer a military base on the moon to save us from Iraqi WMDs. It's all about priorities, isn't it? For four years the Kerry/Bush team has worked lock step: Both protecting the WTO, NAFTA, Kerry stumping to save the sneak - peak Patriot Act. Go to the computer and check his voting records. Please. J.
