Solidarity Message from the Irish Republican Socialist Party to the
Struggling People of Vieques

Comrades defending Vieques, Sisters and Brothers:

The Irish Republican Socialist Party sends you its greetings of
solidarity. We know that this summit will be taking place in the
midst of renewed bombing by the U.S. imperialist Navy, in a continuing
violation of Puerto Rico's national sovereignty and in callous
disregard for the health and welfare of Vieques and Puerto Rico in
general.

With the renewed bombing by the U.S. Navy, we know that many will have
resumed their courageous resistance, through civil disobedience, to
defend Vieques--and Puerto Rico as a whole--from the ecological
carnage, economic stagnation, and horrible toll in human health,
lives, and physical as well as emotional well being. It is only
appropriate that such resistance should take place, and certainly the
Puerto Rican people would be justified in using any means necessary
to put an end to the gross injustice of the Navy's bombing of
Vieques, as well as to achieve national liberation and social justice
for Puerto Rico.

The Irish Republican Socialist Party wishes to join its voice with
those of so many others, from throughout the world, in commending you
for your courage and steadfastness. Moreover, we join our voice with
those calling for an immediate end to the bombing of Vieques and to
any continued U.S. military activity in Puerto Rico. The bombing in
Vieques, like that which took place so long in Hawaii, is a
manifestation of the ruthless disregard for indigenous lives and well
being that accompanies colonialism--a colonial occupation that should
embarrass the people of the United States by its persistence.

The Irish Republican Socialist Party extends its hands in an embrace
of solidarity with the activists in Vieques and the working people of
Puerto Rico. We wish Puerto Rican working people a swift victory, in
recognition that your victory brings us that much nearer to our own
liberation.

Victory to the struggle of the Puerto Rican people in Vieques!
Victory to the Puerto Rican national liberation struggle!
Victory to the Puerto Rican working class!
Long live the solidarity of the Irish and Puerto Rican people!
