Subject: [L-I] Hunter Bear update

There have been a number of inquiries to me and other family members as
well -- interested in how I'm doing on the medical front [SLE complicated by
diabetes].

There have been Lupus problems these past two weeks or so. They may fall
into the framework of what are known as SLE flare-ups: among the signs are
badly cramped hands, a quickly transitory facial rash, considerable fatigue,
some reswelling of feet, an on-going superficial cough, increasing pain.
All of this tends to come and go -- and then come again. Lupus -- and I do
have the most malevolent version -- is a chronic and incurable disease.
Frankly, anything can happen. But we all do remain sensibly optimistic.

A couple of days ago, Thomas and Maria and I went for a ride in Thomas'
jeep. I suggested we go by the hospital -- up on the far edge of things on
the other side of town -- because, as I indicated, "If we do that, it will
mean that I won't be incarcerated there again." [Don't tear my "logic"
apart!] So we did just that -- and then concluded our junket by walking
150-200 yards up into the hills on our side of town. That's the very first
time I've been in the open country since this thing struck last summer.

We [Pocatello Area Anti-Racist Committee] are working on our anti-racist
conference for next Fall.

I am happy to report that we've had several days of substantial rain and
even some snow. It's still going on. This is the drought-stricken West and
we badly need any moisture we can get. It's a pure pleasure to see it come
down.

The very fine Tribute to which a good number of people contributed in
various ways is now much feathered out with new additions that have come in.
We shall always treasure it -- now and forever.

A final medical type note. If something should happen to me [not counting
on it by any means], I have chosen cremation and the sprinkling of my ashes
at our ancient family hunting camp region on the eastern rim of Sycamore
Canyon -- southwest of Flagstaff. Until then, the ashes will have to be
stored some way, some place. I want them in a coffee can, hopefully Chase &
Sanborn.

In our Gray Hole, the ghosts often dance in the junipers and sage, on the
game trails, in the tributary canyons with the thick red maples, and on the
high windy ridges -- and they dance from within the very essence of our own
inner being. They do this especially when the bright night moon shines down
on the clean white snow that covers the valley and its surroundings. Then
it is as bright as day -- but in an always soft and mysterious and
remembering way. [Hunter Bear]
