[L-I] Various Matters: msg#00001politics.leninism.international
Friends - Our Pocatello Area Anti-Racism Committee [PARC] is gathering much indeed on regional racial and culturally ethnocentric discrimination. This is in preparation for action stuff on that and related fronts -- and a conference that we are planning for next Fall. My grandson/son, Thomas' special friend, Mimi, going into Medicine at ISU, is from Chingola, Democratic Republic of Zambia. Chingola is a major copper producing area -- where the mines, mills, smelters, and refineries are all socialized. Her father is a metal mining engineer -- now working on his PhD. As Thomas and Mimi and others of us travel together about Pocatello and the general region, we pick up some extremely weird and revealing racial reactions. Our Tribute on Lair of Hunterbear is now substantially bigger. You may want to look at it. In time, we will move it to OwlHead as well. There are new messages, photos, stories, etc. http://www.hunterbear.org/special_tribute_page_for_hunter.htm We very much appreciate the fine messages and poetry. The financial contributions are helping much on the high cost of some of the medicines and related things. The positive thoughts do get through to me! On my medical situation, about which people are reasonably curious: It goes back and forth, up and down. Spent about 2 1/2 hours very recently at the doctors' offices: Basic checkover, taking blood, being filmed for medical classes. This occurred on Tuesday afternoon, March 30, 2004. Eldri, Josie, and Thomas accompanied me. Thomas, in Medicine, had sharp questions and perceptive comments for the doctors. The checkover produced nothing newly unusual -- although my feet and legs still remain swollen. I remain opposed to Methotrexate or Imuran -- for myself -- as a replacement for my on-going Prednisone since there is a possibility, however slim, of cancer development with both those chemo drugs. As I told one of the physicians, "This really hasn't been my year and I don't want to push things." He agreed and we negotiated a kind of agreement that, along with my continuing Prednisone for the time being, may see my occasional use of Fosamax to prevent bone shrinkage and decay which can be engendered by Prednisone. [Prednisone can produce diabetes which came to me almost as soon as I began to use it.] We used Foxamax for a month -- late December through January -- when my Prednisone dosage was especially high. It's now lower -- and I now take calcium pills, much buttermilk three times a day, a big Vitamin D once a week, and a multi-vitamin once a day. At some point later on we will get a bone density exam. In addition to the vitamins, I am taking a slew of pills each day. Then I was filmed at some length by our senior physician for medical classes. His methodology is interesting and valid. We went through my whole SLE saga to date -- but with neither of us mentioning Lupus by name. [And we brought in lots of background stuff -- including my Native and Scottish clans.] The point of his film exercise is to see if students can make an effective diagnosis on the basis of explicit symptoms and related data. Still a professor, I am always glad to oblige a colleague and his students. I enjoyed this. Fighting on - Hunter [Hunter Bear] HUNTER GRAY [HUNTER BEAR] www.hunterbear.org In our Gray Hole, the ghosts often dance in the junipers and sage, on the game trails, in the tributary canyons with the thick red maples, and on the high windy ridges -- and they dance from within the very essence of our own inner being. They do this especially when the bright night moon shines down on the clean white snow that covers the valley and its surroundings. Then it is as bright as day -- but in an always soft and mysterious and remembering way.
