Re: Semi-OT: telecommuting & web development: msg#00220php.tcphp
I'm actually going back to my home country (Russia, yes, I know my name isn't Russian) in August for 8 months and I've convinced my company to allow me to work remotely for the time. Their biggest concern was my ability to attend meetings, they like to meet about every little detail here, but luckily we have video conferencing equipment and VoIP. I will also be getting email to my cell phone there as the time difference is 9 hours. For myself I feel this little inconvenience is worth it, and I do find that I get more work done when people aren't constantly asking me questions. >From my experience aranging this I got the impression that most of the concern is just that factor of control, they don't want you going to the beach when you should be working or telling them it took you all day to do a 1 hour task. But if you don't trust your employees then why hire them, but I can see not trusting a new hire. Sadly there are a lot of dishonest people that would like to be paid to do nothing all day. -- Scott Downing <sdowning-44oa8dZYi30C0E6/esFX4Q@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > > On Tue, 2005-06-21 at 07:25, Justin Koivisto wrote: > > > >>Greg Jorgensen wrote: > >> > >>>Applicants must be located in the Twin Cities area. > >> > >>Why?
