RE: Semi-OT: telecommuting & web development: msg#00216php.tcphp
I have been "telecommuting" for a company in Texas for more than 3 years. The arrangement has worked out quite well for me and the company. With things like Vonage and broadband access I typically only make one or two trips a year to Texas for work. I actually get more done being away because there are fewer interruptions. The key is being disciplined enough to get the job done at home. Many people are not. Why? Do companies down there (the cities) actually think they will get better results if they hire someone less than X miles from their shop? How many of you telecommute in your job (especially if you do web development)? Even up here in the woods (~4 north of you), we do a lot through email, phone (and occasionally) web cam. I can't be lead to believe that our small communities are more technologically advanced than web development companies down there. I've always thought that web development was the perfect business to do from afar. Sure, you may need to meet sometimes in person, but most things can be done through other means. Is this "need to be local" thing specific to the cities area, or do you find this to be true across the US/World? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: talk-unsubscribe-4zcLI8jJc/rYtjvyW6yDsg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Please read and follow the list guidelines: http://www.tcphp.org/mailing_list/guidelines The tcphp.org mailing list is sponsored by pajunas interactive, inc. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: talk-unsubscribe-4zcLI8jJc/rYtjvyW6yDsg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Please read and follow the list guidelines: http://www.tcphp.org/mailing_list/guidelines The tcphp.org mailing list is sponsored by pajunas interactive, inc. |
