Collaborative PHP project: Any movie fans?: msg#00046php.tcphp
I'm looking for a collaborator to work on a series of scripts I'm hacking together for gathering movie information and working with movie-related websites (Movies.com, Roger Ebert's site, Amazon.com, Netflix), etc. Essentially, I'm writing stuff to help me organize DVD's, choose new movies to see/rent, add items to my Netflix queue, and just generally manipulate movie-related data and sites. Some of it runs on the commandline, some in a browser. I'd also like to experiment with some of the data analysis tools at phpmath.com to do things like movie recommendations based on agreement with critics or other movie viewers. I'm looking for someone with a love for movies, experience doing screen scraping, parsing RSS, using the Amazon API, using CURL to spoof browser sessions (including secure logins), etc. to help out/bounce ideas off of. Since it's a personal project, this would, of course, be a voluntary kind of thing. Whether the results stay private, end up as a free online service, etc. will be hashed out if necessary. I only work on this for 15-20 minutes at a time, here and there, so we're not talking about a major project or something that will be done quickly. What I have so far: Full Amazon data on ~53,000 DVD's including the largest cover image locally cached. (This script takes a LONG time to run and build the database due to Amazon's "1 request per second" rule). Scripts to fetch movies currently in theaters, movies just released on DVD, etc. ranked by average critic's review. A script for generating a square DVD "covers" for DVD's stored in CD-sized binders/sleeves. In the works An "add to Netflix queue" script. A "show me recommended movies showing near my zipcode" script. Enough rambling. |
