ezmlm doesn't use a database, but ecelerity does.
Now I know this list is not abandoned. I apologize to the people
that work on this. But I would be appreciated if there will be someone
listed as the list administrator on the website or in the List-* mail
header and will reply no mather the problem is solved or not.
We respond based on the severity; a bit more spam getting through
doesn't warrant immediate attention, whereas the mail stopping completely
does.
I
understand people are voluntary here, but asking a same question several
times for months without a single reply still make me frustrating.
We do read the lists and we are capable of noticing problems like
increased spam levels and so forth. In addition, we have monitoring
infrastructure that
pages people (usually me) when problems are detected. In light of
this recent problem, we'll be enhancing that infrastructure further.
We have an elaborate set up that blocks most of the spam before it
hits the mailing list, performs challenge-response authentication for
previously unknown senders and applies a variety of other anti-spam
techniques, while maintaining good throughput and a sane CPU load.
We're doing a good job at filtering the lists while still allowing
them to be useful for our diverse community.
We do all of this in our spare time (and in the middle of the night as
and when we get paged), without credit, so you'll have to forgive us
if we don't respond to statements like "there is spam on the list".

Oh. Apparently someone has lost my mails. In my records the
earliest spam into PECL-DEV can be traced back to 2005-10-11. Early
spams are dropped, sorry. Here are that spam and my reports.
Also, in Feborary 2006 there are many English spam get into this list.

Re: Japanese spam
To answer your question, no, the lists are not subscriber-only because
many people read these lists via the nntp interface at news.php.net.
But if it is your first post to the list you have to go through a
verification step.
The odd spam is going to get through. We get thousands of spam attempts
and block the vast majority. You are complaining about spam in
Feb.2006. So let's review that. Here is the complete list of spam that
got through that month:
Feb.3 Subject: replica specially for you
Feb.6 Subject: CLOTHES
Feb.10 Subject: bape goods
Feb.11 Subject: supply juicy couture sets
Feb.17 Subject: lovely SEVEN Jeans
Feb.19 Subject: Hot jeans
Feb.20 Subject: 2ææåæåççéèçè
Feb.21 Subject: äååççäéèæææåèç
Feb.22 Subject: fashion products
Feb.22 Subject: dunk $25 shipped
Feb.24 Subject: add my msn
Feb.24 Subject: äååççäéèæææåèç
Feb.28 Subject: éçèååæèæåäççååèç
Feb.28 Subject: 100% Customs clear Guarantee now!!!!!!!
So while I agree that this was not a good month for the spam filters,
please put it in perspective. That's 14 messages that got through over
the course of a month. And it's not like a virus got through. So, if
you can't handle the odd spam message getting through every couple of
days which will take you a split-second to delete, please unsubscribe
from the lists.
