What is the bug why PDO won't install by using pear installer?
Check the pear core archives, I reported it several times over the
months.
The bug is that "pear install" doesn't run "make install".
I found the mails - the main problem here was that no bug was ever
opened in the bug tracker. I like to think that I have a superhuman
memory, but that is clearly not even close to true. Please, the more we
can work together on this the better. I will try to fix this ASAP.
I have no idea. It would be kind of good if I had some idea, as I
have been known to fix things from time to time. Wez, and all
others, I have made some HUGE changes to the way pecl works in PEAR
1.4.0. Please get off your respective couches and look at them
before it is too late and
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I find that comment particularly offensive.
I'm up to my ears with work and development of PDO. It's just not
physically possible to find more time to investigate the new PEAR.
Here's the thing. If you want PECL packages to be installed
differently, that would be fine, you can rewrite everything to use
Wez's pickle tool (or whatever tool of choice makes sense), or you
can get in gear and make sure PEAR works for PECL as well as it works
for PEAR.
I don't like your tone, Greg. I understand that your frustrated at
the lack of feedback, but *come on*, you're just getting pissy now.
I have no time, period. If you don't like it, moan at someone else.
Your reponse is understandable, I would likely say the same thing.
Still, the fact holds that PEAR 1.4.0 alpha 1 is about to be released
and if used right, it will completely transform the importance of PECL
from a repository used by only linux developers to something even the
most technically inept windows user can take advantage of. PDO is
crucially important, please don't think I expect you to divert your
energies from this work right now, but do understand that PEAR 1.4.0
could be equally important, and I have been asking for feedback since
August 28, 2004 (search pear-core archives for "changes to package.xml 2.0")
We're working towards the same goals, I'm sorry that my comments are
offensive, I mean no personal affront.
I did mean quite seriously this comment, not as a pissy aside: if PEAR
is not the right tool for installing pecl packages, it would be very
easy to implement another tool as a subpackage of PEAR - I've already
separated the pear and pecl commands, they don't necessarily have to
access the same code to run. I like your pickle tool, and these things
might end up being better for PECL in the short and long run. It's a
good time for devs to take a look at things and decide whether PEAR
should stick with its strength (PHP packages) or improve one of its
biggest weaknesses (PECL extension packages).
