Hi Shane,

could you please do a "pear -V" and see which PHP / PEAR-versions you 
have running? If PEAR is not latest 1.3b1 please upgrade the core 
first and then try installing Log again. Maybe that helps. The 
problem you have reported has been mentioned on the list before ...
