Zlib error

Hello,

I'm trying to install php-4.3.1 on an Apache Server 1.3.12,
My problem is that even if configure doesn't give me errors or warnings on
zlib,
The make install commang result on an error telling me that : "zlib.lo is
not recognised : File truncated".
I've read that ldconfig command is used to rebuil library, I tried it on my
zlib directory.
And nothing happened (ldconfig seemes to work only in .so files not .lo).

My Configure command is :
./configure --with-oci8 --with-gd --with-zlib (or
--with-zlib-dir=/path/to/zlib/) --with-apxs=path/to/apxs

I've made several tryal, removing config.cache betwwene each, but no one
have worked.
Does someonge already have this problem or can someone help me.
