Yes, I can now access variables via $_REQUEST.
After reading the registerglobals manual, I see 
I have been relying on register_globals being on. 
Now it that was  turned off without my notification,
everything stopped working. Ironic, as it was one of
the reasons I began writing scripts in PHP rather than
the Perl I used for a few years ...
