libphp4.so no where to be found

okay, I followed the exact directions from
www.php.net/manual/en/install.apache.php and that damn module 'libphp4.so'
was no where to be found at boot time, so I had to take the line they told
me to put in there out and boot Apache back up by itself. Can any help me
with some correct directions about getting that module installed with PHP?
I'd very well appreciate anybody's help!
