Hey Anant,
I wasn't saying 'DON'T DO IT!' - more like 'is it really what we need?'
Anyway as I said before, Andrei seemed very much into the idea, put himself
up as 'mentor' and encouraged everyone with access to vote for it. But he's
not around to speak for himself this week.

Hi Steph,
Markus' point about win32 is obviously one I very much agree with; I
have problems with the idea of introducing 'pure' gnomishness into the
PHP-GTK project's CVS repository too.
I do not deny the fact that adding support for GNOME will widen the gap
between PHP-GTK and Win32. But that is no reason for us not to do it,
the extension will only be used by those who need it, not affecting the
Win32 users in anyway at all.
Python is as much a cross-platform language as PHP and I am sure they
would have had the same issues. However, they did decide to go ahead and
make the GNOME extension. It has not affected the cross-platformness of
pyGTK in any way.
The reason I make that comparison is because I personally derive
inspiration from pyGTK and would like to see PHP-GTK reach that
position. It may not seem right to many, since PHP can hardly be
compared to Python on any plane. However, in the words of Scott:
<quote>
PHP-GTK is the Cinderella of the PHP world. Most people dismiss it as an
impractical curiosity trying to fit in where it doesn't belong..........
To all of these "Wicked Step-Sisters" I say, don't be so quick to judge.
Take a moment to look beneath the surface and glimpse at PHP-GTK's true
potential.
</quote>
The conflict is at the root, a vision of what PHP should be. For many
it's still for the web, but I beg to differ. Anyway, just my $0.02,
don't take me too seriously :)
