Watchdog doesn't indicate any errors and there's no trace of the update
attempt, which reflects the fact that something goes wrong when changes
are made. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Is there any errors display in the error log (admin/watchdog/error) as
this may give you an idea of what is wrong.
