Do you really need the depth of each level? How about using CSS directly to
define the layout?

E.g. with   div.the_menu li li li { ... }

or something similar?

P.S.

Of course, we'll need to unhitch the parts of menu generation from the
plugin code in "PrivateFrontMenuDefaultDisplay" (especially the horizontal
separator HTML markup) and put it completely in the
"plugin.front.menu.default.tpl"-template file - but I suppose you set the
separator aside anyway.
