build 36 & xorg regression ??: msg#00012os.solaris.opensolaris.help
Intel D945GCZ motherboard, ATI x600 PCIE graphics. Locks solid just before the GUI login screen would come up. I have installed b20, b24, and b36 on this box. B20 wouldn't do a gui install using the ati driver. Selecting a VESA install, then generating xorg.conf and adding "ChipID 0x5b60" to make it think I was running an x300 let it run X ok. B24 got installed via the on-board graphics but it handled the x600 fine when _that_ board was re-installed (w/some resolution mods). B36 install hangs w/the ati driver but installs OK with XF86-VESA ATI. BUT boot hangs just when the GUI login should come up. Solid lock, blank screen. Reset to reboot usually damages the filesystem requiring reinstall. By reinstalling and booting immediately to failsafe mode I have tried editing xorg.conf to select the vesa driver and/or the ati driver with the above ChipID mod. No joy. I'm guessing PCIE/graphics/ati issues. Any clues, suggestions? Thanks, Bill This message posted from opensolaris.org |
