SUMMARY: path_to_inst and V880: msg#00077os.solaris.managers.summaries
I never posted a question on this problem, but I am posting this fix for whoever might need it. Sometimes your /etc/path_to_inst file gets large and you want to refresh it. The two options I know of are to trash the file and boot -a to recreate it, and to use devfsadm -C. The devfsadm option did not work for me, or perhaps I just don't know how to use it. I have two shinny new V880s. Out of the box, I can trash the path_to_inst file and it will be recreated. If I have jbod arrays connected, I can't boot -a without a path_to_inst file. I tested this on slots 7 and 8 only. The two workarounds I am happy with are: 1. Disconnect all arrays, trash path_to_inst and boot -as. The file will be recreated. You can then hook up the arrays and boot -r. 2. When you first install Solaris, make a copy of path_to_inst and call it path_to_inst.orig (or bob or whatever). When you want to clean up the file, copy the orig copy over the real one, and then boot -rs with the jbod arrays attached. I have not tested it, but wonder if having an empty path_to_inst file would be enough to allow me to boot -as with the jbod array attached. Andrew |
