Dear Sun Managers,

I've a SunFire 280.

During booting up, the following messages were appear.

Feb 18 13:31:25 Ajax picld[67]: [ID 299567
daemon.error] No FRU Information for
CPU0_DIE_TEMPERATURE_SENSOR using default temperatures
Feb 18 13:31:25 Ajax picld[67]: [ID 299567
daemon.error] No FRU Information for
CPU1_DIE_TEMPERATURE_SENSOR using default temperatures

My end user is not feeling comfortable on this error.
I have put in all recommended patches for 280R,
Solaris8 recommended patches, as well as 110460-13
(according to Sunsolve SRDB 41242, this patch will
solve this messages) but the problem persist.

Can someone enlighten me on this? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Bong

RE: Sun's SRC/P card, Solaris upgrade SUMMARY

Thanks to all: Tim chipman , Tom Crummey , Frank van der Wolf Basically it looks like upgrade the OS and then update the drivers. However one response showed the drivers for sol8 as likes to sol6 drivers. Could be the latest drivers are all the same. since my drivers are older, I will go with upgrading the drivers Thanks! Ted John ------ FYI , here are the responses....... I upgrade a similar box (e450, with non-os slices in raid through the HW raid card) from Sol 2.6->8 about a month ago. I simply did the upgrade ; confirmed the OS stuff was good ; then uninstalled the appropriate packages, applied the new ones (downloaded from sunsolve) which provided support to this hardware under solaris 8. After a reboot, everything was back to normal (ie, mounts on the HW raid controller were visible again). It was definitely NOT 100% automatic, ie, Solaris8 upgrade did NOT resolve the issue by itself. Hope this helps a bit, -------------------------------------------------------- Hello Ted, I did this: Upgraded the system to Solaris 8. Downloaded the latest SRC/P drivers and firmware from SUN. Installed those drivers. To be really sure, I'd pkgrm the Solaris 7 drivers before the upgrade. Tom. --------------------------------- I got 4 controllers about a month ago. They came with the 2000 Revision A software. The Solaris 7 and 8 packages actually are symbolic links to the Solaris 2_6 software... bash-2.05# pwd /mnt/Solaris_8/Packages bash-2.05# ls -l total 13 drwxr-xr-x 4 root other 2048 Aug 10 2000 SUNWhwrd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 36 Aug 10 2000 SUNWhwrdf -> ../../Solaris_.6/Packages/SUNWhwrdf lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 36 Aug 10 2000 SUNWhwrdg -> ../../Solaris_.6/Packages/SUNWhwrdg lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 36 Aug 10 2000 SUNWhwrdm -> ../../Solaris_.6/Packages/SUNWhwrdm drwxr-xr-x 4 root other 2048 Aug 10 2000 SUNWhwrdx lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 34 Aug 10 2000 SUNWvtsd7 -> ../../Solaris_7/Packages/SUNWvtsd7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 34 Aug 10 2000 SUNWvtsdx -> ../../Solaris_7/Packages/SUNWvtsdx I've found this page to be very usefull, as there is hardly any documentation available on docs.sun.com: http://sunsolve5.sun.com/fcs/hwraid-card/ ------------------------------------

SUMMARY: xfree86 on windows 2k connecting to Solaris on sparc

Thanks to those who responded (unfortunately Outlook has thrown a wobbler and I have lost their names). Problem was caused through xfree86 not having the correct fonts available. When pointed at a font server running on one of the sparcs everything worked OK. When trying to connect to any of our 3 sparc boxes (2 x e250 + 1 x ultra 1 enterprise) nothing happens. cygwin/xfree86 just displays a black screen with the outline of the Solaris hour glass on it. "ps -ef | grep dt", of the sparcs shows the a "dtgreet -display networkadmin:0" when trying top connect form host networkadmin. However that process disappears after about 60 seconds. Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening and how it can be resolved? Craig Scott IT Development Officer South Tyneside College
