This happens when you click the Triggers table view (there are some stuff in need of cleanup in there...). I don't think it's related to the issue at hand.
What I've been able to reproduce :
Creating a trigger with "pizza" QSTextTypeAction, and binding this to a hotkey seems to work (although the modifier keys you're currently pressing will affect the text you type, and it has a tendency to output the text more than once.)
I'll take a look at this, but I guess this kind of functionality would be better put in a separate plugin (maybe using the shelf as a text snippets source...). File an new feature request ;-).
