Subject: Postgresql doesn't startup anymore. - msg#00289
List: os.apple.fink.devel
Hi,
as discussed two weeks ago on [Fink-Users] I'm not able to startup
Postgresql after updating it to version 7.3.3. I got the following
error:
shell-init: could not get current directory: getcwd: cannot access
parent directories: Permission denied
Can anyone help me to fix this problem, and getting my db back up and
running?
Thanks in advance,
Andrea.

Re: Re: dists/10.3 IDEAS,NONE,1.1 TODO,1.3,NONE
Ah, I get it now. I guess for me, a certain workaround has become such
a habit that I forgot about why I do it. Namely, when I want to build a
package foo which has a shlibs splitoff, I just do "fink build foo-shlibs"
to avoid the extra installation.

In the short term I just changed all file ownership in the
/sw/var/postgresql directory tree back to the pgsql user.
I used the command 'sudo find /sw/var/postgresql -exec chown pgsql.pgsql {} \;'
I suspect this'll break when I install another fink update
of postgresql.
In the long term I'm probably going to have to make the
transition over to the new 'postgresql' user to allow fink
updates to work. I just haven't got that to work yet.
I suspect I'll need to delete /sw/var/postgresql/data
and init a database setup manually under the new user,
but I haven't spent the time to see if that'll work.
