Still no luck upgrading to 1.4. I guess something is missing in the instructions:

And then please no more guesses, just a cookbook recipe how
to upgrade 1.3.5 to 1.4.0

First, back up all data.

Untar the archive. Run 'php maintenance/update.php' (with a real
command-line PHP; if the command is named differently use the actual
name.) Remember that for command-line maintenance scripts an
AdminSettings.php is necessary; see AdminSettings.sample.

I untarred the archive in /usr/local and made a symlink from my documentroot

Then I copied the old Localsetting.php and modified contents to correct paths

The I ran update with the following result:

---------
[root@kropix mediawiki-1.4.0]# php maintenance/update.php
PHP Warning: chdir(): No such file or directory (errno 2) in /usr/local/mediawiki-1.4.0/maintenance/commandLine.inc on line 28
Content-type: text/html
X-Powered-By: PHP/4.3.10

A copy of your installation's LocalSettings.php
must exist in the source directory.
-----------

So what does this script do, and how can I check if it did anything: ie does it modify the database??

Daniel
