Re: Slackware compared to Debian: msg#00395org.user-groups.linux.philippine
I'm more on the desktop-user side. As a person used to Windows for the period 1990-2000, it's been my concern to look to Linux as a user-friendly OS. That's why I've become a RedHat baby from Guinness to Shrike. Now I'm using Tettnang (Fedora Core 2). I had tried Debian and Slackware for a while when I had a 200-mhz laptop, 2mb-video and 32mb memory laptop machine. But as soon as I acquired a Pentium II machine such as the one I'm now using, I jumped to Shrike. It all depends to one's nature of work. I'm more an NGO Manager than an active Open Source advocate. So I have to adjust to an environment that is used to Windows for me to be effective in relating with people. So my choice is any Linux distribution that is capable of connecting with Windows machines. I would have loved Xandros but I have to buy the Standard/Business Edition. The same with Win4Lin. So I always have to rely on RedHat/Fedora. But if the choice were between Slackware and Debian, my two cents for Debian. Dong Ariz C.
