RE: course on embedded linux: msg#00360org.user-groups.linux.philippine
Quoting Orlando Andico <orly-TNEdZibuOH3QT0dZR+AlfA@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>: > No offense but i don't see any Ph.D.s teaching iphil's courses. I believe that you do not need a PhD to teach embedded linux. You need technical expertise in that area though, and for this you do not even have to be a college graduate. It makes sense if you have some kind of college degree though, so that your audience can believe in your technical expertise. A PhD is usually, but not always, a degree given for research work that contributes original knowledge, in some limited academic discipline, usually theoretical but not always, and usually out there on the bleeding edge. Many years ago, some PhD degrees were given in UCIC for work in finite simple groups, some PhDs were given in NUS for work in graceful graphs, etc. A PhD from Ateneo got his degree for work on self-complementary graphs, another one for work on Cayley graphs, etc. A PhD just says that you very good in some limited area of knowledge, but that you may be a zero in many other areas.
