what's wrong with a GUI?: msg#00240org.user-groups.dotnet.padnug
This is a related topic to my source control post. Plus I've been playing with Linux. The two together have made me wonder: Why are programmers afraid of GUIs? Linux especially. In some respects the Linux GUI is better than windows. But to install a program you have to go to the command line 9 times out of 10. Why? This is silly. People think Linux can compete with Windows? Not for 95% of people in the world. How many typical computer users even know how to get the command line in Windows? I'm sure this will change, but I think there is an underlying ethos in Linux that won't let developers give up that command line. There seems to be a feeling that if you don't use the command line you aren't a real programmer or something. -- Justin |
