If you install it in a VPC image there's 100% protection for your host
operating system. The VPC image itself is the one that has to "worry."
That's the beauty of Virtual PC. :)

Can someone give me advice on this before I do it so that I don't hurt
myself?

I want to install the Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1 refresh that we got on
the DVD that MS gave us at the last MSDN meeting. I put Vitrual PC 2004
on my laptop (I have 2G bytes of memory). I want to run the Beta 1
refresh on the virutal computer.

The first screen for install (which I have not gone beyond yet) cautions
me that I should not expect anything and that I should not install on a
computer that means anything to me and that I should be prepared to
reformat my drive. Wow. How serious is this caution? How much
protection does installing on a vitual machine give me?

Thanks.
-Ted
