Erich,

sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was hoping to test before I responded, but haven't had a chance yet. So will try to do this from memory (I have a number of linux boxes authenticating to my PDC via samba this way).

in thinstation.conf.network (or your preferred conf file)
SAMBA_SERVER_ENABLED=ON
SAMBA_SECURITY=SERVER (or it might have been DOMAIN - just can't remember the other bits)
SAMBA_SERVER=<ip> (of your domain controller)
SAMBA_WORKGROUP=<workgroup or domain>

OK, this a Good Idea! No smbpasswd, no clear password! Great!
But... how? Can you suggest me how to configure smb.conf to work with a domain controller to have a authenticated access to local peripheral?
I read samba configuration manuals and I had not able to understand how to do it. Can you help me?
Thx

Only possible other use is to allow smb authorisation (ie. against a domain
controller), but I think that this can be set in smb.conf and doesn't need
smbpasswd??? Therefore smbpasswd should let you change your domain password, but
I'm not sure of the benefit from a thin client.
